Running Mountains

I locked myself in the bathroom. To blog. No. I'm not "taking care of business." This is just one of those secret mom tricks that you do when you want to escape from the madhouse. And since its Sunday morning I deserve at least a few minutes to myself. As long as I turn the fan on my boys will usually stay clear of me. I think its working. So with all the frantic planning I've been doing this past week to prepare for my trip to New York (Wow. I still can't believe I was able to swing this thing) I've neglected to post a quick update of my latest race which was a pretty big goal for me.  As you know, I've been training a little differently for all my races. In fact, my training is so unconventional that I will readily admit I've had some serious doubts. I've put blind faith in this program because I respect my coach and his professional expertise when it comes to this kind of thing. If you had told me a year ago that a program amounting to littl

NYC BFR Commemorative Tshirt Design

ZapsThreads NYC 2011 BFR Tee After much deliberation and discussion about the business, our money situation, my travel strategies and my passion... I am actually going to New York!! Well, that is if its not too late to buy my plane ticket and race registration. A turn of events that completely took me by surprise.  As luck would have it I managed to find alternative ways of saving enough money on this trip that my husband agreed that it would be worth it for me to go. It took some time and thought, though, so I'm hoping its not too late. So to celebrate the fact that I can go, I created a commemorative tee. So if you're planning on going to NYC to run barefoot on September 25th, go check it out. And if you're going, let me know... I might just see you there. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

He's currently serving our country in the military and recently made his own huaraches (he calls them his combat sandals) while in Afghanistan out of cardboard and paracord (hmmm... a barefoot Macgyver?) I encourage you to go check out his blog if you want in on the action. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Sleep. Who needs it?

Image
I haven't been sleeping well lately. Which is totally unlike me. I'm a solid sleeper with a very consistent sleeping schedule. I don't have a TV in my room and I prefer to either take a bath or read a book right before bed. I prefer my room to be pitch black and cool, with a window cracked or a fan on. Its easy for me to fall asleep and stay asleep. At least that's how it used to be. I guess I have a lot on my mind lately with my upcoming races and other stuff. Yeah. Actually, its the "other stuff" that's got me tossing and turning I think.   Other Stuff #1: My dad just got out of the hospital. He had open heart surgery. An aortic valve replacement and a triple bypass to be specific. The triple bypass was a "buy 2 get 1 free" deal. That's right. The docs decided to super-size his procedure from a double to a triple on the operating table. How's that for a bargain? And to top things off he's been diagnosed with Multiple Myelo

My Solo Barefoot Birthday Run/Video and Invisible Shoe Huaraches Review

Barefoot Birthday Solo Run I was running "naked" as in barefoot. It was my birthday run. Not running in my birthday suit.  I got to steal away from "normal" life for a bit and enjoy a few moments on the trails all by myself. I don't know how far I went exactly but I was out for at least an hour and a half. I would guess it was somewhere around four miles because I stopped to take pics, make a brief video and enjoy the mild weather on top of the knoll. The view on top of the knoll The last time I ran those trails barefoot it was covered in mud. This time there was lots of sand and fine, soft dirt. The powdery stuff was heaven. The spurs and thistles... um... not so much. Yeah. Its been a while since I've been able to do a decent length barefoot run. My feet have a little warming up to do. But it was my birthday and although I love my family very much, I needed to get the hell out of Dodge if you know what I mean. Spiky thing My knee was

Blood, Sweat & Beers Race Review

10.5 miles of some serious elevation Luckily I wasn't the one who broke my ankle. However, I did pass a few people who were waiting for first aid. Other runners had already stopped and were making sure the injured runners were OK so I felt comfortable enough to keep running. Those poor people. This race almost always takes its toll on a few runners. Its not the kind that you can barrel down hills. Um. You do that and you're likely to eat some dirt in some parts. Not the best way to add iron to your diet. It was my first trail race of the season. I ran 10.5 miles. With an elevation climb total of 2914 feet and down for 2916 feet. Lets just say it wasn't a cake walk. View from the top of the canyon (Photo from Folsom Trail Runners) The race begins at Railhead Park in Auburn, CA. The first part of the course follows an aquaduct along the ridgeline of the canyon that overlooks the American River. This part of the trail is partially shaded and somewhat dodgy in some

Your Questions Answered.

Image
I survived my last race and I'm back to answer your questions. Whew! There were a lot and some of my answers aren't short so here goes... 1. What is the weirdest google search that someone has done to find your blog? Funny. They're all porn related which really isn't all that "weird" but I found these amusing: • ladder butt burn • 38 d pointed topless (Not sure how this one led to my blog... hmmm?) 2. What is your favourite running outfit? Whatever is clean. Honestly, I don't have a favorite. Lately I've been wearing my bfRevolution tank which I love and a comfy pair of retro-style shorts. In the winter I like to wear cut out knee high socks for fun. 3. What do you wear to bed? Depends on how cold/hot it is. Lately, a cami and boy short undies. 4. What is your worst bad habit? I have a habit of forgetting stuff. Usually groceries. I once left about 4 bags of groceries in the back of the car for two days. Recently, I left an entire cart f
